On Saturday, March 2nd, 383 Pleasant Valley first graders were recognized and awarded for their reading efforts at the 20th annual Booker Bear Reading Challenge!  Each of these little readers read 10 books or more in one month and as a reward, were invited to a pizza party along with their families at the Bettendorf Public Library where they received a certificate of achievement and their very own plush Booker Bear.  They even got their picture taken with Ascentra’s Jumpin’ George and the Bettendorf Library’s Booker Bear!  An outstanding 97% of Pleasant Valley first graders completed the challenge!

The annual Booker Bear Reading Challenge event began in 1999 and is the first reading program of four that Ascentra supports.  Thank you to our partners at the Bettendorf Public Library, the Pleasant Valley Community School District, and the Ascentra staff who volunteered their day to make this event possible.
